MATV (Master Antenna TV) is a system similar to the IRS except that it just distributes TV and radio signals throughout your flat block. They are generally quicker and simpler to install than an IRS so if you don’t want to provide communal satellite capability in your block (i.e. you are going to not allow your tenants to have Sky/Freesat or don’t mind them installing their own dishes on your building) then this might be a desirable option.
SMATV (Satellite Master Antenna TV) are often used in hotels and gyms as they work much like the MATV but with the addition of certain additional TV and satellite channels. They have been considered a halfway house between the MATV and the IRS but aren’t being installed in residential blocks to any great extent because of the demand from tenants for full digital and satellite provision.
